The migration flow
From AEM to WordPress, in 4 controlled steps.
Audit

301 map
1:1 redirect for every URL.
Migration
Content, media and data in staging.
Validation
Testing, indexing and go-live.
(01) Strategic decision
AEM is powerful. WordPress delivers the same without the license.
Adobe AEM offers cutting-edge enterprise capabilities but requires an expensive license, a dedicated specialist team and slow release cycles. Modern enterprise WordPress (with multisite, headless and block architecture) delivers the same capabilities with radically lower operating cost.
(02) Why migrate
Limitations that stall your growth.
The Adobe AEM license consumes a significant budget per year.
WordPress: open source. Zero platform license cost.
Requires a specialized Adobe team expensive and scarce.
WordPress specialists widely available, a broad and competitive market.
Slow release cycles and complex deploys.
WordPress: agile deploys, integrated staging, CI/CD possible.
Content editing depends on IT for every change.
Gutenberg: an independent editorial team, no ticket to IT.
Adobe vendor lock-in risk of discontinuation and repricing.
WordPress: open platform, no lock-in risk.

Why migrate from Adobe Experience Manager to WordPress?
AEM (Adobe Experience Manager) has a license cost of hundreds of thousands of dollars annually, requires a specialized technical team (Java/HTL developers) and complex updates. Enterprise WordPress with premium plugins covers 90%+ of use cases with a total cost of ownership 10 to 30× lower. A common migration in the mid-market leaving AEM.
How do you migrate content from Adobe AEM to WordPress?
AEM exports content via REST API or content packages (.zip with XML). The migration extracts pages, assets and metadata. AEM components (Experience Fragments, Content Fragments) become Gutenberg blocks, ACF fields or WordPress templates. DAM assets (images, videos, documents) migrate to the WordPress Media Library.
AEM Headless: how to migrate to WordPress Headless?
The AEM GraphQL API and Content Fragments have a direct equivalent in WPGraphQL + Custom Post Types + ACF. The migration preserves the content schema, adapting the query language from AEM GraphQL to WPGraphQL. The frontend (React, Next.js, Angular) can remain unchanged only the data source changes from AEM to WordPress.
Adobe Analytics and Target: do they integrate with WordPress?
Yes both have WordPress plugins and native integration. Adobe Analytics uses Launch (Adobe Data Collection) with a WordPress extension or GTM tag. Target (personalization) integrates via at.js with Launch. Migrating from AEM to WordPress doesn't interrupt these integrations they're configured independently of the CMS.
Does AEM DAM migrate to the WordPress Media Library?
AEM DAM assets (images, videos, documents with IPTC, XMP metadata) migrate to the WordPress Media Library. Metadata (caption, copyright, alt text) is preserved. For large asset volumes (>100,000), the migration uses batch upload via CLI (wp media import). Assets with renditions are automatically optimized by WordPress.
