What is a CRO Assessment?
CRO Assessment (conversion rate optimization evaluation) is the initial diagnosis that identifies where and why users abandon the conversion funnel, without converting into a lead, purchase or signup. It combines quantitative analysis (Google Analytics, heatmaps, session recordings) with heuristic UX review to prioritize the biggest improvement opportunities.
What data to analyze in a CRO Assessment?
Essential data sources: (1) GA4: conversion funnel, abandonment rate per stage, behavior by device/traffic source; (2) Heatmaps and clickmaps (Hotjar, Microsoft Clarity), where users click vs. where they should; (3) Session recordings, real behavior of users who abandoned; (4) Exit survey, why they left; (5) Usability tests, 5 users reveal 80% of the problems.
What's the difference between a CRO Assessment and an A/B test?
A CRO Assessment is a diagnosis, it identifies problems and formulates improvement hypotheses. A/B testing is validation, it tests whether a specific hypothesis improves conversion under controlled conditions. The Assessment comes first: without clear data and hypotheses, A/B tests test what doesn't matter. The result of the Assessment is a backlog of experiments prioritized by estimated impact.
How long does a CRO Assessment take?
Basic assessment (analytics analysis + UX heuristics): 1 to 2 weeks. Full assessment (analytics + heatmaps + recordings + user interviews + usability testing): 3 to 5 weeks. The deliverable is a report with: top 10 problems by estimated impact, testable improvement hypotheses, and a prioritized experiment plan.
What are the most important CRO metrics?
Primary metrics: overall conversion rate (unique visitors ÷ conversions), conversion rate by source, average value per session. Diagnostic metrics: bounce rate per landing page, time on page, scroll depth, form abandonment rate per field, cart abandonment rate. E-commerce CRO monitors: add-to-cart rate, checkout completion rate and AOV.
