Migration flow

From Shopify to WooCommerce, in 4 controlled steps.

01

Audit

Inventory of URLs, SEO and content.

02

301 Map

1:1 redirect for each URL.

03

Migration

Content, media and data in staging.

04

Validation

Testing, indexation and go-live.

(01) Strategic decision

Shopify charges per sale. WooCommerce doesn’t.

Shopify transaction fees, added to the monthly plan and extra apps, erode margins constantly. WooCommerce eliminates these fees, opens integrations with any payment gateway and gives you full control over checkout, domain and data.

(02) Why migrate

Limitations eating your margins.

The problemWith WooCommerce →
(01)

Transaction fees on every sale, margin being consumed.

WooCommerce: no platform fee. You choose the gateway.

(02)

Shopify apps with high cumulative monthly cost.

WooCommerce plugins: mostly free or one-time fee.

(03)

Rigid checkout, hard to customize buying experience.

WooCommerce: 100% customizable checkout, optimized conversion.

(04)

Platform lock-in, your data and domain held hostage.

WordPress + WooCommerce: your data, your server, your property.

Why migrate from Shopify to WooCommerce?

Shopify charges 0.5 2% transaction fee on every sale (on top of gateway), has limited checkout customization and doesn't allow self-hosting. WooCommerce has no native transaction fees, fully customizable checkout and data under your control.

How to migrate products from Shopify to WooCommerce?

Shopify exports products as CSV with variants, metafields, images and inventory. WooCommerce Product Importer natively reads this format. Collections become WooCommerce categories. SKUs, barcodes and prices are preserved.

Do Shopify customers and order history migrate to WooCommerce?

Yes: customers (email, address, purchase history) and orders (status, amount, items) migrate via CSV export and WooCommerce import. Passwords don't migrate, customers receive a password reset email.

Do Shopify apps have WooCommerce equivalents?

For each popular Shopify app there is a WooCommerce equivalent: Klaviyo (email), Recharge (subscriptions → WooCommerce Subscriptions), Yotpo (reviews), Gorgias (helpdesk → Freshdesk). Migration includes mapping and reconfiguration.

What happens to SEO in a Shopify → WooCommerce migration?

Shopify URLs follow /products/ and /collections/ patterns, different from WooCommerce. Each URL must be 301 redirected to the WordPress equivalent. Search Console is reconfigured. Well-executed migrations maintain stable or growing organic traffic.
